 Creation: Appeared in July 2012 as the 2nd US 395 ALT. This was a renumbering of NV 429 between Exits 10-16 of I-580/US 395 and US 395; US 395 up to NV 341-431; US 395 Business the last half mile to I-580/US 395 Exit 25.

Comments: Although US 395 ALT is signed on Bowers Mansion Rd south of Eastlake Blvd at Exit 10 (as you must follow this about a half mile to reach the ramp to I-580/395 SB), the zero milepost is at the Bowers Mansion/Eastlake intersection.

Previous US 395 ALT's:


 US 395 ALT #1: Appears on commercial maps as early as 1939 as a route to bypass central Reno. It appears to have used Sierra St/California St initially.
It appears that in the 1940s, US 395 ALT continued south on Plumas St then used Moana Ln to get back to Virginia St.
By the 1950s, US 395 ALT became an unusual split route, with SB on the original route but using Forest St and Mt. Rose St, but NB using Center St and 6th St over to Virginia St. US 395 Virginia St was between the NB and SB alignments of US 395 ALT.
I believe US 395 ALT went away when the first segment of the North-South freeway opened in spring 1972 and mainline US 395 was placed on it.
US 395 ALT did not appear on any Nevada Official State map. County maps showed it as NV 33A. There is no AASHO documentation of US 395 ALT. There is an explicit reference to this route in the 1936-38 biennial report
I assume this was posted. US 40 had a similar US 40 ALT bypassing US 40 through downtown back in the early days and I have seen photos of it being posted.
