Creation: Appeared in the 1925 US Route plan and was rolled out in late 1926 as the same routing: US 41 (now Macon Rd at Carroll St) Perry GA to US 17 (now GA 32-99) Sterling GA. US 341 was added to GA 27 from Brunswick to Hawkinsville and GA 11 from Hawkinsville to Perry. It is possible US 341 continued with US 17 to downtown Brunswick but I have found no definitive proof of this. It is also possible that US 341 was briefly assigned US 125. This would've been part of a 1926 Kentucky proposal to change US 41 to US 25 from Naples FL to Chattanooga TN.

Adjustments: It appears US 341 very briefly used Altahama Park Rd/abandoned cutoff/Pennick Rd from Everett to southeast of Zuta, before being placed on Old Jesup Rd. In 1928, US 341 was extended southeast over US 17 to the new US 17 routing (now Old Jessup Rd at US 25-341) below Arco Jct, as the first Turtle Creek bridge was opened. In 1933, US 341 was straightened out northwest of Arco Jct. US 341 now ended at US 17 slightly further out (current Blythe Island Connector). The old route: both segments of Old Jesup Rd between Arco Jct area and below GA 32-99; lengthy Old Jesup Rd from north of GA 32-99 to Everett.
In September 1937 (AASHO), US 341 was extended north out of Perry, replacing US 41 through Macon to Forsyth, then added to GA 42 to Atlanta. Between 1933-38, US 341 was removed from US 1/GA 64 (now GA 144)/Old Surrency Rd past Surrency/abandoned/dirt road called Ogden Bk on Google Maps which used to connect back to US 341 at the Wayne County line. Also between 1933-38, US 341 was given its current routing from Jesup southeastward. The old route: Cherry/Brunswick/Plum/abandoned diagonal/Jesup Lake Rd/Old Brunswick Hwy/abandoned back to 341 at Little McMillen Creek. In May 1938 (AASHO). the extension to Atlanta was changed to deferred after some protestation from Macon interests regarding moving US 41. This deferal became a cancellation. Note that Georgia had the extension on one state official. By 1939, it appears US 341 was rerouted in Perry to stay on Main St to Ball St to then end at US 41 Carroll St. Macon St became GA 11 Bypass for a time. In June 1948 (AASHO), US 341 was extended north with GA 7 to end at US 41 (now Forsyth St) Barnesville.
Between 1940-52, US 341 was removed from a southern abandoned loop centered around Sugar Creek west of Lumber City. In June 1956 (GDOT), the original US 17 Lanier bridge opened just south of Brunswick. US 341 then replaced US 17 into downtown Brunswick, then south and east over GA 27 to the new US 17 just north of the Lanier bridge. About 1959 (bridge date), US 341 was removed from Old Eastman Hwy/abandonded Ocmulgee River bridge and connection back to Commerce St in Hawkinsville. US 341 was given a wide directional split through Hawkinsville. WB used the original routing of Commerce St and Progress Ave. EB used the newly constructed "341 Bypass" and Broad St. Neither of these alignments was one-way except at the Ocmulgee River crossing area. Between 1958-63, US 341 was given one-way splits through Perry. WB used Washington St (some new construction) and EB used Ball St.
In November 1966 (AASHO), US 341 was given a bypass around the west of Barnesville, extending US 341 to US 41 northwest of town. The old route into Barnesville became Murphey Ave, plus GA 18-36 (now Thomaston St) In October 1967 (AASHO), US 341 was removed from the lengthy Musella Rd/Clay Rd north of Roberta; lengthy Old Hwy 341 through Culloden; GA 83 and Strouds Rd north of Culloden. About 1974, US 341 was rerouted in Brunswick to its current path: Norwich St Ext/Newcastle St/Bay St/Prince St/Newcastle St/4th Ave. The previous path: Norwich St Ext/Norwich St/G St/Newcastle St/4th Ave.
Between 1976-82, US 341 was removed from College St and a bit of 5th Ave in Eastman in favor of replacing GA 27-S on Cherry St. Between 1983-87, US 341 was given one-way splits in McRae-Helena. WB is on Railroad Ave and EB is on the original route of Oak St. In May 1989 (GDOT), US 341 was removed from Cherry St through Jesup just north of US 25-301 to use a new connector over to Pine St, where US 341 replaced GA 27 ALT through Jesup. In October 1993 (AASHTO), US 341 was given its southern bypass of Eastman, leaving behind US 341 Business, plus Peanut Rd.
In October 1995 (AASHTO), the wide directional split was eliminated in Hawkinsville. The WB alignment became US 341 Business and the EB alignment became both directions of US 341. The one-way splits at the Ocmulgee River bridge remained, with US 341 WB using Jackson St to head back to Broad St.
April 1998 (AASHTO), US 341 WB was moved from Jackson St to Veterans Pkwy in Hawkinsville. In December 2001 (GDOT), US 341 was returned to just using Ball St through Perry In May 2018 (AASHTO), US 341 was removed from its routing through Perry and placed on the Perry Bypass around to the north, eliminating US 341 Bypass. The old routing through Perry became Main St into downtown, then Ball St and GA 7 west out of town.
About 2008, US 341 was truncated to the new US 41 southern bypass of Barnesville. US 341 north of there became part of US 41.
Comments: Provides a multilane corridor from the south Georgia coast to I-75 at Perry for connections to Macon and Atlanta. It is surprising US 341 wasn't placed on multilane GA 224 to the south of Perry. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
