 US 511: Appeared in the 1925 US Highway plan, running from US 70 (now Old Dandridge Pike) Strawberry Plains TN to US 11 (now State at Front) Bristol.
US 511 was an addition to TN 34.

Tennessee acknowledged on Feb 16, 1927 to AASHO that the US 511 description was accurate but later sent a map dated Nov 1927 showing US 511 as US 11E.
In 1927, US 511 was removed from TN 344/Old Russellville Pike through Russellville; Stagecoach Rd/Old Stage Rd around Whitesburg and Bulls Gap
In 1927 or 1928 (per official TN route log), US 511 was extended southwest replacing US 70 to the new US 70 alignment (now Carter School Rd) in Trentville.
In 1929, US 511 was removed from Philippi Church Rd west of I-81
Also in 1929, US 511 was placed on Blue Springs Pkwy and removed from N Mohawk Rd/Pottertown Rd near Mosheim; Pecan Ridge Rd and Main St through Mosheim; Emerald Rd; Baughard Hill Rd; Mt Pleasant Cir; Old Knoxville Hwy to Greeneville
AASHO eventually noticed US 11E on Tennessee maps and accepted their belated request to make this change in June 1929.

Today, the route US 511 followed is US 11E only in a few places and instead used: Strawberry Plains Pike out of Trentville; abandoned routing/Old Strawberry Plains Pike just west of the Jefferson County line.
Old Andrew Johnson Hwy through Strawberry Plains, Hodges, New Market and Jefferson City; East Old Andrew Johnson Rd near the Hamblen County line; Old US Hwy 11E through Alpha, plus a little of what us now TN 160-342; Main St/Mornigside Dr all the way through Morristown
Blue Springs Pkwy through Mosheim to Greeneville; US 11E Bus through Greeneville; Old Tusculum Rd west of Tusculum; Erwin Hwy and Sam Doak Dr through Tusculum; Chuckey Hwy in far eastern Greene County; Heritage Rd/Old SR 34/present TN 353 through Limestone and Telford to Jonesborough;
E Main St, Old Jonesborough Hwy and Walnut St from Jonesborough to Johnson City; Wautauga St and Oakland Ave in Johnson City, plus the lengthy Austin Springs Rd and Mountain View Rd through Piney Flats, plus Old Elizabethton Hwy and Carter St into Bluff City ; Main St and Fleming Dr within Bluff City; ; Bluff City Hwy (except Avoca Dr), Edgemont Ave, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Alabama Ave (no longer connects to), 4th (now part of MLK Jr Dr), State St to end at Front St (where US 11 came in from the opposite direction on State).
Since Tennessee did not begin posting their US routes until 1929, US 511 was never posted.
