Creation: Appeared in April 1994 (AASHTO) as the 3rd US 371, running from US 84/LA 1 Armistead LA to US 59-70-71 De Queen AR. Louisiana and Arkansas had requested this be designated US 427. Additionally, Arkansas wanted it to extend with US 70 to the Oklahoma State line but since Oklahoma had no interest in the US route, AASHTO ended it in De Queen. The apparent thought, per this newspaper article (scroll to bottom), was to connect it to the Indian Nation Turnpike.
US 371 was added to US 84 to Coushetta LA, then replaced LA 7 to Arkansas.
In Arkansas, US 371 replaced AR 132 to Magnolia and AR 19 to Prescott.

Adjustments: About 2011, US 371 was removed from a bit of Rosston Rd, 2nd St, and a bit of Main St in Prescott AR. Instead, US 371 crossed a new railroad overpass to US 67 into downtown.
In November 2014 (AASHTO), US 371 south was extended west from US 84/LA 1 as new construction for 3.4 miles, then followed LA 177 south to I-49. Back to at least 2003 there were US 371 shields on the I-49 BGSs and a shield at the US 84/LA 177 intersection. There were no 371 shields southbound after the US 84/LA 1 intersection. This extension was not on the AASHTO list of approvals, so it was resubmitted and was on the approval list from September 2015 applications.

US 371 #1: Created in December 1929 (AASHO) as a renumbering of US 271, running from US 271 (now Old Wister Hwy) south of Poteau OK via Heavener and Page to end at US 71 north of Mena AR. This was about 54 miles.
It is unclear where the endpoint definitively was. The reason is that the first "modern" US 71 bridge over the Ouachita River north of Mena was let to contract in May 1929. But I cannot find when it actually opened. If it was after December 1929, then US 371 ended at the junction of Polk CR 188 and Polk CR 76 (original US 71 alignment) well southeast of Acorn AR. If the new bridge opened before December 1929, the endpoint was Polk CR 108 and Polk CR 109 (the next US 71 alignment) in Acorn. If it opened between December 1929 and June 1930, US 371 ended at each location for a time.
In June 1930 (AASHO), US 371 became part of US 270.
Arkansas never acknowledged, nor refuted that US 271 came into the state to end north of Mena when the 1927 list was sent to them. When US 371 replaced US 271, AASHO specifically notified Arkansas and requested a response, which never came. No Arkansas map showed US 271 or US 371 within its borders and state highway reports of the time did not list either 271 or 371 in their route lists. It is all but certain Arkansas never posted US 271 or US 371 in Polk County. They suggest this in an August 1930 letter to AASHO alerting them that the new US 270 to include then-AR 8 into Oklahoma was now satisfactory for interstate travel and that they will start installing US 270 markers (thus US 270 wasn't immediately posted either).
Oklahoma explicitly told AASHO that they did install US 371 markers.
Maps of what US 271 and US 371 did to reach US 71 in the Mena area were all over the place on where the route ran. My speculation was that confusion came from AASHO listing Mena as the endpoint and not Acorn or "north of Mena" or similar. However, the 1927 description of the Arkansas routing of US 271 said "from the Arkansas-Oklahoma State line near Fogel to Mena." Fogel is shown on Le Flore OK county maps as being on present US 59-270 very close to the Arkansas border. Maps kept trying to show the route from Page OK directly to today's AR 8 or AR 88 to Mena itself. The problem is there is a mountain in the way and there has never been a road to do this. To see a healthy collection of maps showing all sorts of stuff, check out this blog about US 371.
The old route (if the US 71 bridge did not open until after US 371 came to be): Polk CR 188; bit of US 59-71; CR 96 to US 59-270.
The old route (if the US 71 bridge did open while US 371 existed): CR 108; US 59-270
The rest of US 371's route: CR 90 for 1.2 niles, then removed railroad crossing; US 59-270 to Heavner OK (except: north abandoned loop centered 2.5 miles west of the state line; abandoned south loop plus a little Spring Mtn Rd near Page OK; abandoned/Stapp-Zoe Rd, Hicks Rd west 0.2 miles, private/abandoned north past Cedar Creek then west back to 59-270 at about Cedar Creek Rd; Old Hwy 59 towards Petros OK, then Norvell Rd (discontinuous) to Heavner, then 1st St back to 59-270.
US 371 used Old Hwy 59 Heavner to below Howe; Railroad St in Howe; Old Hwy 59 to just across Poteau River; abandoned/bit of Long Lake Hill Rd/private-abandoned west of 59, then angling northwest across Ridge Rd to Cedar Rd; Old Hwy 59 to its Y intersection with Old Wister Hwy.

US 371 #2: Created in July 1931 (AASHO), running from US 10-N (now MN 27) Little Falls MN to US 2-71 (now MN 197) Bemidji MN. This was a replacement for MN 27 from Little Falls to Brainerd and MN 19 from Brainerd to Cass Lake. US 371 then followed US 2 to Bemidji.
About 1933, US 371 was removed from 7th St out of W. Brainerd, plus abandoned alignment back to 371 a bit south of Wolda Rd. This appears to also be when US 371 was removed from Dellwood Dr/Novotny Rd just north of Wolda Rd.
Also about 1933, US 371 was given a more direct alignment from the Leech Lake area to Cass Lake. The old route: CR 94 Cass Line Rd from CR 62 100th St north, CR 39 west, CR 5 north and east around Steamboat Lake; CR 5 north on Cass Line Rd, then east on CR 1 Nava Rd/156th St, then north on 61st Ave into Cass Lake. It met the new US 371 alignment at 1st St SW in Cass Lake.
In October 1933 (AASHO), Minnesota proposed to replace the entirety of US 371 with an extended US 61. In June 1934, they changed their thought to have US 371 replaced by an extention of US 218 instead. They reiterated this proposal in Sepyember 1934. There was no further correspondence regarding this, and of course it did not happen.
About 1934, US 371 was given a more direct alignment from Walker to the Leech Lake area. The old route: Oberley Loop/Sautbine Rd northwest, CR 38 west to Benedict, MN 85 (now CR 31 and CR 62 over to US 371). US 371 no longer entered Hubbard County south of Cass Lake following the 1933 and 1934 realignments.
If US 371 ever used 1st Way/1st St through Hackensack, it stopped doing so by 1938.
About 1940, US 371 was removed from Lilac St west out of Jenkins/44th St and 16th Ave north back to 371.
Between 1937-42, US 371 was removed from Ninebark Dr/abandoned bridge across Shingobee Bay near Walker.
About 1951, US 371 was removed from abandoned starting at Hassman Hill Rd across the Pine River to pick up CR 44 north, CR 1 west to Pine River, MN 84 back to 371.
About 1952, US 371 was removed from Rasmussen Rd through Pequot Lakes to where it curves to the NW, then abandoned north across the new MN 371, then CR 112 north, CR 16 west to just short of MN 371, then Old 371 north, then Veterans Ave back to 371 in Jenkins. This appears to also be when US 371 was removed from Lower Cullen Rd north out of Nisswa.

About 1953, US 371 was given a more direct route from Cass Lake to Bemidji. The old route: 1st St SW, Grant Utley Ave (now discontinuous) through Cass Lake, CR 60 61st Ave north, CR 61 164th St west, CR 75 69th Ave north, CR 8 Roosevelt Ave north and west to Bemidji to meet rerouted US 371 at Paul Bunyan Dr.

About 1955, US 371 was removed from Riverview Dr/Riverview Drive Merge in Little Falls.
About 1957, US 371 was removed from Front St NW and Walker Bay Blvd south of Walker.
About 1960, US 371 was removed from Round Lake Rd, Gulf Lake Rd, and Hazelwood Dr south of Nisswa.
In December 1971 (AASHO), US 371 was decommissioned. Little Falls to Cass Lake became MN 371 and US 2 remained to Bemidji. Today it is: 1st St/CR 76 Haven Rd out of Little Falls to just short of CR 48 233rd Ave; MN 371 to Bemidji except: MN 371 Business through Brainerd; Patriot Ave through Peqout Lakes, then Langenbau Ct; Waterwheel Rd on the north edge of Midge Lake east of Rosby; Paul Bunyan Dr into Bemidji.
