US 373: In July 1934, the Kansas Highway Department submitted a proposal to AASHO in an attempt to resolve US 73-E and US 73-W changes with respect to extending US 69 south from Kansas City.
As part of this proposal, they wished to renumber US 73-E between Kansas City and Auburn NE as US 373.
In the margin of the letter where it discussed US 373 specifically, AASHO wrote 173. Which means AASHO was considering this but would use the number 173 instead of 373.
In the end, they renumbered US 73-E north of Kansas City as US 73 in 1935.
