Creation: An original state route in 1923, running from TN 1-6 Nashville east through Carthage to Cookeville, then northeast through Livingston to the Kentucky line at Static.
Adjustments: In 1926, US 70 was assigned to TN 24 from Nashville to Lebanon.
About 1928, TN 24 was removed from 1st Ave into Baxter; Buffalo Valley Rd to Cookeville; Hughes St in Cookeville (this used to connect to Spring St at Scott Ave)
I believe that by 1929, TN 24 was removed from Burton Branch Rd/Dry Valley Rd in Algood and Turkey Creek Rd north of Algood.
Also about 1929, TN 24 was removed from US 41 heading southeast out of Nashville (now 2nd and Layfayette); Elm Hill Pike (except used Trails End Lane at Bell Rd and continued further east into what is now J Percy Priest Lake); underwater routing north to Stewarts Ferry Pike; east across Stones River; north underwater; Dodson Chapel Rd which used to connect directly into Weber Rd; Andrew Jackson Pkwy; Highland View Dr
In 1931, TN 24 was removed from Maple/Market/High St in Lebanon; Rome Pike/abandoned routing south of US 70N/Old Rome Pike through Bellwood.
In 1931 or 1932, TN 24 east was rerouted at Cookeville to instead replace TN 42 to TN 26 (now Sparta Dr) Crossville. The old route through Livingston to Kentucky became TN 42. Today it is: N Washington Ave and E 10th St out of Cookeville; Main St through Algood; lengthy Old SR 42/Main St from north of Algood through Rickman and Kalona up to the south edge of Livingston; Main St through Livingston; TN 294; TN 111 to Kentucky except: Haney Judd Rd, Twin Oaks Rd and Big Springs Rd north of Livingston; Beaty Swamp Rd/Old Livingston Rd; Old Highway 42; Obey River crossing used Dale Hollow Estates Rd which used to go more directly west across Obey Park Rd and 3/4 mile to the original bridge which was very close to the small island in the river, then connected east to the end of Palnk Yard Rd then Lakeview Heights Rd; TN 325 and N. Main St through Byrdstown; Old Static Rd (no longer connects to)/Red Hill Rd; Old piece of TN 111 right at US 127

Also in 1931 or 1932 was when the state highway was removed from Junior Camp Rd near Mayland.
Also in 1931 or 1932, TN 24 was moved from 4th Ave to 2nd Ave leaving Peabody in Nashville
In 1932, TN 24 was extended west with TN 1 through Nashville, then west on new highway bypassing Belle Meade to its current endpoint.

By 1932, TN 24 was removed from County House Cir outside S. Carthage
Also about 1932, TN 24 was removed from today's TN 171; Old S Mt Juliet Rd; Old Lebanon Dirt Rd; Division St to nearly Leeville. After this it is uncertain which road TN 24 took to Lebanon - either Hickory Ridge Rd or Leeville Pike
In 1935, US 70N was assigned to the entirety of TN 24, at least in Tennessee's opinion. AASHO didn't approve US 70N to continue and was calling this route US 70. Tennessee changed their maps to show this by 1937.
Also about 1935, TN 24 was removed from Peabody/2nd/Broadway/6th/Union/9th/Church/West End to instead use Hermitage/1st/Broadway
About 1938, TN 24 was removed from Kelly Cir; Badger Ln; Boyd Ln and Waterville Ln (used to connect in a looping abandoned alignment) west of S. Carthage
In 1939 or 1940, Tennessee restored US 70N to the routing of TN 24.
In 1940, TN 24 was removed from Blevin Rd and Volunteer Cir in Rome; Plunketts Creek Rd in Rock City; Old Lebanon Rd and River Rd in S. Carthage
I believe in the 1940s, TN 24 was removed from White Cir and Walton Cir in the Chestnut Mound area
It is unclear when TN 24 was placed on Elmore Rd east to US 127. It cannot have been before US 70 was removed from Sparta Dr which was around 1958.
By 1965, TN 24 had been altered to accommodate I-40 in the Monterey area. TN 24 was removed from most of Parker Rd west of TN 84; 1/2 mile of I-40's footprint west off Exit 300; Industrial Dr west of Crossville St
Between 1982-85, TN 24 was rerouted in Nashville to leave Broadway via one-way pair on 13th/14th to Cedar. This left behind 46th/Murphy Rd/Broadway
