US 485: An original US Highway that was created in September 1926 (AASHO), running from US 66-85 (probably San Francisco St at The Plaza) Santa Fe NM to US 85 (now 750 ft northeast of NM 445) south of Raton NM. This was a replacement for NM 8 from Santa Fe to Espanola; NM 33 from Espanola to Cimmaron; NM 21 Cimmaron to US 85. The mileage repored to AASHO on the initial 1927 route list was 164 miles.
In June 1931 (AASHO), US 485 was renumbered as a part of US 64. Today the route is Old Taos Hwy leaving Santa Fe; Tano Del Este; Opera Dr; a bit if Red Ridge; CR 73 through Tesuque to US 84-285 Exit 172; NP 804 through the Tesuque Pueblo area to just past the admin building; abandoned north to US 84-285 Exit 175; US 285 Frontage to Exit 176; US 84-285 to NM 502; abandoned/Grazing Elk Dr; US 84-285 (except abandoned loop east at Arroyo de Destierre; Meyers Rd/abandoned); in the MM 185 area US 485 used a mix of US 84-285 and both frontage roads to Espanola; NM 68 to Velarde (except the frontage road/abandoned road north of Rio de Truchas and abandoned/CR 60); NM 68 to Pilar (except CR 61 through Embudo; 1105 Rd to NM 75 then abandoned northeast across NM 68 to loop around back under NM 68 looped back to NM 68; abandoned along the Rio Grande from Rinconada to the Taos County line); NM 570 to the Rio Grande bridge; unnamed road/abandoned east along Rio Pueblo de Taos; CR 110 east 4.3 miles; abandoned/Old 68/abandoned/Old Santa Fe Rd to Rancho de Taos; Valerio Rd/NM 68 to Taos; US 64 to NM 445 (except Witt Rd se of Taos; abandoned loop east at Six Mile Creek). It is difficult to tell if there are abandoned alignments of significant length east of Eagle Nest that were used by US 485.
