US 417: In May 1932, North Carolina requested that US 17-1 from Wilson south to Wilmington be renumbered as US 417, then extend US 417 south through Shallotte NC and Myrtle Beach SC before curling west to end at the requested US 317 (now US 701 corridor) at Conway SC.
In June 1932, AASHO agreed to renumbering US 17-1 and putting the extension to Conway SC, but assigned US 117 instead. Today the portion south of Wilmington is the US 17 corridor to Myrtle Beach and the original US 501 corridor to Conway. | ||
