Adjustments: In May 1995 (KDOT), US 400 was rerouted between southeastern Greenwood County to Parsons as new construction southeast, bypassing Fredonia to the east, continuing southeast to a new bypass west of Neodesha, then east as new routing to just west of Parsons where it followed then-US 160 into Parsons to get back to US 400. The old route became two disconnected segments of 10th St, Old Hwy 96/1700 Rd; KS 39; Harper Rd south to Fredonia; remained KS-47 over to south of Erie; remained US 59 south to Parsons.

Comments: US 400's number is a puzzler. The original applications do not reveal its origin. An extended US 350 or a x66 or a resurrection of US 154 would've all been better choices.
US 400 does occupy an important corridor across the southern third of Kansas, though roughly 60% of its entire length is overlaid with other US routes.
