Adjustments: In 1950, US 31A was removed from Overpass Rd out of Cornersville
I am guessing that in the early 1950s, US 31A was removed from Yell St/Yell Rd loop in Lewisburg.
By 1975, US 31A was placed on one-way splits in southern Nashville, with NB using Ensley Blvd/2nd Ave and SB using the original routing on 4th Ave.
Between 1976-78, US 31A was rerouted in South Nashville to follow US 41 entirely, changing US 31A's endpoint from 2nd-4th/Broadway to Lafayette at 8th. 2nd/4th Ave north of Lafayette St was removed from the state highway system; while Broadway remained part of US 70; 1st Ave between Broadway and Robertson Pkwy was also removed from the state highway system.

It is unclear when US 31A was placed on the 1963 Bypass of Lewisburg. County maps up through 1997 show only TN 11 Byp or TN 106. The 1997 City of Lewisburg map DOES show US 31A Bus through town. Topo maps in the 1970s showed the bypass as US 31A Byp though I am skeptical it was posted this way.
Posting: Fully posted, though poorly in Nashville near its north end

Comment: US 31A provides a backdoor way from Pulaski to Nashville.
In Tennessee's application to AASHO they said they would gladly have 31A be 31E if they would allow it (they would not).
