TN 2A #1: Appeared in 1934 as new primary routing, running from US 27 (now US 127) Chattanooga northeast and east to US 11-64 Tyner. The first 8 miles were a duplex with TN 58 and the rest was new construction along the general corridor of how TN 2 used to get to Tyner.
In 1941 or 1942, TN 2A was truncated to TN 58 near Chickamauga Dam, leaving behind TN 58 (today this 4th St to west edge of Citizens Cemetery, then north to 3rd St (this L connection is no longer a road) east, TN 17)
In 1983, TN 2A was renumbered as part of TN 317.
TN 2A #2: Appeared in the route log in 1942 as running along 9th/Bailey/Dodds between TN 2 (Market at Georgia) to TN 2 (McCallie) in Chattanooga. About 1956 (bridge date), this TN 2A was renumbered as part of TN 2 (no longer in state highway system). I have not found a map that shows this. TN 2A #3: Born about 1956, running from TN 2 Bailey Ave at the overpass at Dodds Ave interchange east on Bailey, then north on Dodds, Glenwood and N. Chamberlain to end at TN 58 (now TN 17). In 1973or 1974, TN 2A was decommissioned. The bit on Bailey Ave became TN 17 Spur; Dodds south of 3rd became part of TN 17; everything north of 3rd was removed from the state highway system. Today none of it is in the system except Dodds between Bailey and the Dodds Interchange (US 11-64/TN 2).
