Creation: Appeared in 1931 or 1932 as new state highway, running from TN 49 Charlotte southeast to US 70 White Bluff. This is the 2nd TN 47.
| Adjustments: In 1945 or 1946, TN 47 was extended west with US 70, then southwest through Burns to end at TN 46 (now Old Columbia Rd) Colesburg. This had been US 70 right up to about then. In 1965, TN 47 was extended west from Colesburg replacing TN 46 to the current TN 46 path in Dickson. Also in 1965, TN 47 north was rerouted from TN 49 in Charlotte to TN 48 southwest of Charlotte, leaving behind Old Hwy 47" Also in 1965, TN 47 was removed from County House Rd southeast of Charlotte and Old Charlotte Rd in White Bluff.

TN 47 #1: An original state highway that ran from TN 1 (now E Main St) Waverly south through Linden and Waynesboro and into Alabama.
In 1925 or 1926, TN 47 was rerouted in northern Wayne County to head ESE to Topsy, then south to TN 15 at Fourmile Board Hill, then west with TN 15 back to Waynesboro. In 1927 or 1928, TN 47 was renumbered as part of TN 13. It is unclear if TN 47 was removed from its routing via Topsy to Waynesboro (which partly became TN 48 but today is TN 99, Topsy Rd, Hollow Rd, Big Opposum Creek Rd and Mayberry Rd). TN 47 is still TN 13 except: Armstrong Rd (no longer connects to)/Old Mt Olive Rd in Flatwoods; Old Hwy 13 S through Bethel; S. Mill St/US 412/Cherry St in Linden; Old Hwy 13 N out of Linden; King Branch Rd/Dove Ln and Old Beardstown Rd at Beardstown; 4th Ave in Lobelville; Tennessee Gas Rd; Old Hwy 13 just inside Humphreys County; Keegan Ln/abandoned route/Cuba Landing Rd/Bodine Loop (cutoff by I-40)/Old Highway 13 up to nearly TN 230; Old Linden Rd/S. Cooley Ave into Waverly
