Creation: The Virginia Home and Industrial School for Girls was
given 1.42 miles of state mileage in 1932. However, it didn't receive a
number until about 1938. Does not show up on state official maps but is
shown in the 1943 VDOT County Atlas. This is the 3rd VA 324.
Adjustments:In March 1959 (CTB), VA 324 south was truncated for some reason to end 0.2 miles short of SR 718 instead of at SR 718 Old Bon Air Rd. There is still a road there posted prominently as NO TRESPASSING.
Posting: Not posted (field verified Oct. 2005). GMSV shows the northern segment as SR 1755 on a street blade which is inaccurate.
Comment: I was able to drive some of this in October 2005. A good bit is accessible without crossing through any gates or guards.
The Industrial School for Girls became the Oak Ridge Juvenile center in 1982, which closed March 2013.
A second facility, the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center remains operational.
On the main 2004 Chesterfield County map (not the detailed section scanned above) VA 324 is erroneously shown as VA 322.
