Comments: US 522 is mostly a minor route in Virginia.
US 522 is on sub-optimal alignments from VA 6 to US 33; although on good straight alignment from VA 208 to Culpeper, the road seems narrow.
North of Winchester US 522 provides easy access to I-70 in Hancock, MD and is a viable alternative to I-81 to Hagerstown to pick up I-70.

Comment: The identity-challenged town of Washington is almost always referred to as Washington Va on road signs.  Rather unfortunate when you consider this is the oldest of all of the Washingtons in the US, having been platted by George himself in the 1740's.
