Froggie's Virginia Cutouts Page

This page is a collection showing Virginia's old (and now being eliminated) cutout shields.  Several of these photos also appear on Gribblenation.  Unless otherwise noted, all photos were taken by Adam Froehlig.

A US 1 cutout, located just past VA 7.  Still posted in July 2007.  Taken by Mapmikey May 25, 2006.
An newly discovered US 11 cutout on Main St north of where US 11-VA 16 veer off Main St. This is very near one of the VA 217 endpoints.  Taken by Mapmikey August 18, 2007.
A US 13 Eastern Shore cutout, located at SR 624 (between Kiptopeke and Cheriton).  This cutout has since been replaced by a normal shield.  Taken April 13, 2003.
This US 13 cutout was at SR 620, a few miles south of Nassawaddox on the Eastern Shore.  It has since been removed.  Taken April 13, 2003.
Just up the road, at SR 617, was this US 13 North cutout.  It has also been removed.  Taken January 31, 2004.
A US 13 cutout still standing, at SR 642 EB, just south of VA 184.  Taken by Mapmikey April 26, 2007.
This TO US 17 cutout is along eastbound Water St in Yorktown.  Taken April 6, 2003.

Two US 17 cutouts in Tappahannock, each direction on SR 654 (old VA 215). The first one was taken down summer 2007 but the second one remains.   Taken by Mapmikey April 7, 2006.

This VA 5 cutout is a few miles west of Williamsburg, along southbound SR 615.  Taken April 24, 2004.

A couple sets of VA 16/ALT VA 16 shields, entering Tazewell from the north.  Taken August 13, 2005.

These VA 61 cutouts are located where VA 61 changes roads in Tazewell. Until 1937, this intersection is where US 19 and VA 61 parted ways.   Taken by Mapmikey July 21, 2007.
A VA 63 cutout still standing, at SR 613 in Haysi.  Taken by Mapmikey August 18, 2007.
A VA 89-97 cutout assembly.  Taken by Mapmikey April 13, 2007.

This VA 91 cutout is located on a former VA 91 alignment where it meets SR 803 (old VA 80). The 91 is on a sticker and there is a 160 underneath. The second picture is the best one I got that you can see the 160 if you look carefully.   Taken by Mapmikey May 18, 2007.

These VA 107 cutout assemblies are on each direction of SR 610 in Quarry.   Taken by Mapmikey May 18, 2007.
An old VA 182 cutout, along southbound SR 600 east of Painter.  This cutout still existed in July, 2007.  Taken September 6, 2004.
A rapidly decaying VA 227 cutout barely standing, on SR 602 near Urbanna. A second cutout further back was removed a couple years back.   Taken by Mapmikey April 7, 2006.


Here are all the VA 230 and VA 231 cutouts standing at their departure from one another.   Taken by Mapmikey January 17, 2007.
Westbound VA 238, near its eastern terminus at the Yorktown Coast Guard station.  This is the first westbound reassurance shield, with a normal "WEST" banner but a cutout VA 238 shield.  This cutout has been replaced.  Photo taken April 6, 2003.
Eastbound VA 337 in Suffolk.  This shield has since been replaced by a normal shield.  Taken February 23, 2003.
A VA 348 cutout still standing, at its eastern end at SR 703 in Hungry Mother State Park. The arrow points the wrong way, though.   Taken by Mapmikey August 18, 2007.
