WV 21: Created in 1922 as new primary routing running from WV 4 (now US 19) Shady Spring east through Hinton to WV 24 (now US 219) Ronceverte
In 1928 (WVDOH Annual Report), WV 21 was rerouted at Alderson to instead head north as new primary routing from WV 3 Alderson north to US 60 Black Sam Church. The route to Ronceverte was downgraded to secondary routing (but is today WV 63). Between 1929-1931, WV 21 was renumbered as part of WV 3 from Shady Spring to Alderson (In Hinton WV 21 used WV 107 and WV 20, except WV 107 has been rerouted off of 1st St over the railroad bridge) and WV 54 from Alderson to Black Sam Church (now a bit of WV 12 and all of CR 25).
