Creation: Appeared in 1959 from US 411 (now US 321) Newport to US 25E (now TN 343) south of Morristown.
Adjustments: In 1986 (bridge date), a separate piece of TN 160 was formed from its current northern end at US 11E then south to TN 342.
Between 1990-92, the western piece was extended east to TN 66 (now Valley Home Rd) as new construction
In 1995 or 1996, the western segment was extended east as more new construction to connect with the original TN 160 highway at TN 343. This altered TN 160's routing at TN 343...they used to meet directly across from Parker Rd.
Between 1998-2001, TN 160 was rebuilt as a 4-lane highway between I-81 and US 25E. Some of this was new alignment. The remaining old parts of TN 160 are Helton Lane; Old Enka Hwy centered around TN 113; abandoned alignment along Flat Creek west of I-81
Posting: posted as primary routing north of I-81; secondary routing everywhere else
Secret US Route Overlay: None
Comment: Forms a southern bypass of Morristown
