Creation: Appeared in 1923 as an original state highway running generally as it does now.
Adjustments: In 1930, TN 37 was extended north with US 11E through Bluff City, then northwest as new state highway to US 11W (now TN 126) Blountville.

Sometime in the 1950s, TN 37 was straightened out north out of Hampton. The only surviving segment is Mill Pond Rd in the Valley Forge area. The quite winding alignment where it crosses the Doe River twice is completely abandoned.
In 1953 or 1958, TN 37 was removed from Crabtree Rd and Old Rock Quarry Rd west of Roan Mountain; Little Mountain Church Rd; Holtsclaw Rd; Herman Johnson Loop; J D Whitehead Rd; Old Hwy 19E, Schoolhouse Rdand Dave Simerly Rd in Tiger Valley.
In 1958, TN 37 was removed from Old Hwwy 19E/Buck Creek Rd east of Shell Creek; Carter St, Main St, Conway St and Cloud Land Dr in Roan Mountain;
Between 1965-69, TN 37 north was cut back to Blountville, then extended northwest to US 11W Mill Point. The road to Spurgeon became a bit of TN 126 and TN 75.
