Creation: Appeared in 1923 as an original state highway, running from TN 1 (now Sycamore View Rd) Bartlett east across much of southern Tennessee to end at TN 16 (now US 64 Bus) Winchester.
Adjustments: In late 1926, US 72 was added to TN 15 from Bartlett to Selmer.
Also in 1926, TN 15 was removed from Chinaberry Ln/Jowers Rd at Olive Hill; if TN 15 ever used Old Town Loop east of Savannah it stopped doing so in 1926.
If TN 15 ever used Jordan Hollow Rd (no longer connects to)/Dry Hollow Rd west of Waynesboro, it stopped doing so by 1926.
In 1927, TN 15 was given its routing from TN 225 to Selmer. The old route used Prentiss Johnson Ln (no longer connects to), Sandy Flat Rd and John Moore Rd.
About 1929, TN 15 west was truncated to the new (and current) US 70 in Bartlett.
If TN 15 ever used Old Jackson Rd/Union Rd/Laconia Rd east out of Somerville or Railroad Dr east of Laconia it stopped doing so by 1929
If TN 15 ever used Purdy Rd and Old Stage Rd from Selmer to Adamsville, it stopped doing so by 1929.
Also in 1929, TN 15 was removed from Sutton Dr east of Lawrenceburg
Also in 1929, TN 15 was completely rerouted in much of Giles County, and was removed from Johnson Branch Rd leaving Bodenham/Old Agnew Rd/Vales Mill Rd (used abandoned routing to the north for last 0.6 miles approachng TN 11)/abandoned routing no longer crosses Richland Cr into Pulaski/Cemetery St/11th St/Jefferson St/Beech Hill Rd/Pisgah Pike/(no longer connects to) Green Valley Rd to Five Points/all of Pisgah Ridge Rd; Pete Rd/Beech Hill Rd in Frankewing; a little Tiger Bark Hollow Rd/abandoned routing to McBurg

In 1930, TN 15 was removed from Cherry Rd/Donelson Rd through Hickory White.
Also in 1930, TN 15 was removed from Breeden Ln (no longer connects to), Hornsby Loop (no longer connects to) and Donaldson Ln between Bolivar and Hornsby.
Also in 1930, TN 15 was placed on a new bridge over the Tennessee River into Savannah. The old route used Old Ferry Ln, the old Savannah ferry, Boat Ln, Riverside Dr and W. Main St.
If TN 15 ever used Powell Chapel Rd/abandoned routing/Sparks Rd/Carl Whitten Rd/TN 225 east of hornsby it stopped doing so by 1930.
Also by 1930, TN 15 was removed from abandoned routing from east of Mcburg to nearly Boons Hill/Delina-Boonshill Rd (no longer connects to)/Hughey Rd/Boonshill Rd to Fayetteville
In 1932, TN 15 east was rerouted at Fayetteville, replacing TN 15S through Belvidere to Winchester, then extended east replacing TN 16 to end at US 41 Monteagle. The old route to Winchester via Lynchburg became part of TN 50 (still TN 50 today except: Old Mulberry Rd east out of Fayetteville; Sullivan Ln, Park Spur; Old Lynchburg Hwy, Cedar Cir and a stretch of Wabash Rd in Mulberry; Henderson Rd/Old Fayetteville Hwy southwest of Lynchburg; Lynchburg Rd/4th/Vine/3rd/High within Winchester.

By 1936, TN 15 was removed from Old Stage Rd west of Crump.
About 1937, TN 15 was removed from Old Mill Rd and Williams Cove Rd/Money Ln east of Winchester.
Between 1939-47, TN 15 was removed from Maple St in Sewanee
Between 1941-47, TN 15 was removed from Missouri Ave/Airport Rd/TN 156/Midway Rd east out of Sewanee. Northeast of Otter Falls Rd is abandoned.
In 1955, TN 15 was removed from Old Waynesboro Hwy just west of Lawrenceburg
About 1962, TN 15 was removed from a bit of Beckham Hollow Rd, then abandoned, twisting routing north of current US 64 to just short of Hardin Cr near Clifton Junction.
About 1963, TN 15 was removed from Moose Lodge Loop east of Savannah; Old Hwy 64 east of TN 128; Shady Grove Loop; Baptist loop in Olive Hill
In 1969, TN 15 was removed from abandoned route/Fortyeight Creek Rd/abandoned route well east of Waynesboro
In the mid-1970s, TN 15 was removed from the looping University Ave in Sewanee
In the late 1970s, TN 15 was removed from TN 99/Old US Hwy 64 east of Waynesboro; South Curve Rd; Old State Hwy 15; Mrs Gower Rd west of Ovilla.
In 1983, TN 15 was extended west to TN 14 (now Old Austin Peay Hwy).

Also in 1983, TN 15 replaced TN 15 Byp around the southwest side of Fayetteville and was added to US 231/TN 10 on the southeast side. The route through Fayetteville became TN 273 into town and TN 50 leaving town.

In 1993, TN 15 was removed from Old Hwy 64 through Frankewing and McBurg
In 1995, TN 15 was given its bypass around the south of Pulaski, leaving behind College St (a little of this remained part of TN 11).
In 1996, TN 15 was extended west a short distance to the new TN 14 alignment.
About 1998, TN 15 was removed from Horseshoe Rd in Taylortown; Turner Rd near Egam; Wilson Rd at TN 273 junction area
About 1999, TN 15 was removed from the lengthy Old Hwy 64 between TN 100 and Bolivar.
Also about 1999, TN 15 was removed from Savannah Hwy/High St/Hill St/Woods Blvd through Waynesboro.

About 2000, TN 15 was removed from Aymett Town Rd and Five Points Rd; McAfee Rd and an unnamed loop just west of I-65.
In 2001, TN 15 was removed from Poplar Ave near the US 45-64 split south of Selmer.
In 2006, TN 15 was removed from Arch Loop east of Olive Hill
Also about 2006, TN 15 was removed from Scenic Rd west of TN 240; Waynesboro Hwy east of TN 241.
Also about 2006, TN 15 was removed from Belvidere Rd in Belvider and Old Crockett Hwy approaching Winchester.
About 2009, TN 15 was removed from Lawrenceville Hwy at the Giles/Wayne line area
Also about 2009, TN 15 was removed from Gum Springs Church Rd and Old Winchester Hwy in the TN 121 vicinity.
About 2010, TN 15 was given the eastern half of its bypass around the south of Lawrenceburg, leaving behind Pulaski Hwy. TN 15 used US 43 to get back to the original TN 15 routing.
About 2010, TN 15 was removed from Main St through Hornsby
About 2012, TN 15 was removed from Waynesboro Hwy between TN 240 and TN 241
About 2014, TN 15 was placed on the western half of the Lawrenceburg Bypass, leaving behind US 45 and Gaines St (some of which is TN 242).
