SC 53 ALT #1: Appeared May 1938 (SCDOT) as new BELT primary routing running from SC 341 through Hobbs Crossroads and back to SC 341. SC 53 bisected this routing. It is strange this was not SC 341 ALT.
In 1947, SC 53 ALT was downgraded to S-43-14.
