Creation: Appeared in Aug 1928 as new routing running from VA 19 (now VA 6) Georges Tavern south to 9.91 miles into Cumberland County. This is the only VA 45.
In Dec 1930 (CTB), VA 45 was extended south to VA 13 east of Cumberland CH.
By 1932, VA 45 received its bypass of Cartersville.
In Aug 1933 (CTB), VA 45 was extended with US 60 (now VA 13) west through Cumberland CH, then replaced VA 310 to end at US 460 Farmville.

In July 1940 (CTB), VA 45 was extended south from 3rd St to US 15 High St, replacing a bit of US 460.
In Nov 1940, the CTB adopted a proposal to reroute US 15 from Dillwyn to Farmville using roughly the path followed by SRs 632/634 to Browns Store, then replacing VA 45 south to Farmville. This would've truncated VA 45 to Browns Store.
In Aug 1941 (CTB), the funding allocated to relocate US 15 from Dillwyn to Farmville was withdrawn, sparing the shortening of VA 45.
In April 1949 (CTB), VA 45 was rerouted to use only US 60 west to Cumberland CH. Until now, it had dipped south of US 60 to VA 13 then west back to US 60. This left behind SR 684 and some VA 13.

I believe that VA 45 was removed from SR 1007 W. Osborn Rd north of Farmville between 1953-58.
By 1958, US 60/VA 45 was removed from SR 616 west of Cumberland CH.
Sometime after 1995, US 15 Business was removed from High St and instead continued up Main St to 3rd St, US 460 Business. This made VA 45's south end move back to 3rd St.
Improvements:  VA 45 was paved in its entirety in 1932.
In 1981, VA 45 was widened from Cumberland CH west to the US 60 WB split
Posted:  Fully posted; Last known cutout was in Farmville in early 90s.
Multiplexes:  US 60 (4.85 mi)

Comment: VA 45 has a few sharp curves south of VA 6 but ovetherwise is an excellent route to Farmville.
