Creation: WV 480 was designated in 1977 as a renumbering of WV 48 to eliminate coincidental numbering with the first US 48 in West Virginia, running as it does today. This is the only WV 480.

Improvements: Upon designation, WV 480 was fully paved; no multilane segments.
Comment: Not sure why this wasn't extended to the new WV 9 freeway or why this wasn't designated as WV 148.
