Creation: WV 74 was designated in 1924 (WVDOT annual report) as new primary routing, running from WV 1 (now CR 50/39) Pennsboro northeast to WV 18. This is the only WV 74.
Adjustments: About 1969, WV 74 was extended south over CR 7 to the new Corridor alignment of US 50.
Between 1981-83, WV 74 was extended south replacing Ritchie CR 7 and Gilmer CR 1 to end at WV 47 Coxs Mills.
Improvements: Paved upon inception from Pennsboro to Tyler County.
WV 74 wasn't fully paved in Tyler County until after 1949.
WV 74 has no multilane segments.
Comment: WV 74 has a lot of twists and turns - 7 in Pennsboro alone...
