SC 9 ALT #1: Appeared in April 1938 (SCDOT) as new BELT primary routing, running on Church St between SC 9 and SC 11 (now SC 18) in Jonesville.
In 1947, SC 9 ALT became S-44-38. Today it is SC 9-11 CONN.

SC 9 ALT #2: Based on its secondary designation this appeared in 1939 as new primary routing running from SC 9 west to SC 901 in Richburg.
In 1947, SC 9 ALT became S-12-17 (now S-12-56).


SC 9 ALT #3: Based on its secondary designation this appeared about 1942 as new primary routing running parallel to SC 9 along Kershaw St in Cheraw/
In 1947, SC 9 ALT became S-13-27.
SC 9 ALT #4: Based on its secondary designation this appeared about 1942 as new primary routing running from US 521 south of Lancaster north across SC 9 before heading west to the US 521/SC 9 split north of downtown.
In 1947, SC 9 ALT became S-29-32 (now US 521 Market St and SC 9 Bus on Meeting St).

SC 9 ALT #5: Appeared in 1946 as a renumbering of SC 9 from US 176 (now SC 56) Spartanburg to SC 9 near Pacolet. Explicitly mentiioned in the 1946 SC Highway Department Annual report.
In 1947, SC 9 ALT became S-42-34. Today it is mostly SC 295 and a bit of S-42-34.
