SC 631: Appeared in July 1932 (SCDOT) as new primary routing from SC 33 (now US 321) Estill east to SC 63 (now US 601) east of Lena.
In 1939, SC 631 was extended east 2 miles as new primary routing to end at today's S-25-50 Nixville Crossroads.
In 1940, SC 631 was extended east as more new primary routing to end at SC 367 (now SC 3 jct with S-27-15) near Grays. Also, SC 631 was extended northwest from Estill to end at SC 331 (now US 301).

In 1942, SC 631 was extended north to end at SC 37-70 (now SC 3 junction with S-5-47).
In 1947, SC 631 was reduced to a 2-piece route: Estill to SC 36 and from US 301 to SC 37-70. US 301 to Estill became S-5-26 and S-25-19, plus a little S-25-38. US 601 to Nixville Crossroads became S-25-16. Nixville Crossroads to Grays became S-25-18 and S-27-9.
By 1950, the piece of SC 631 north of US 301 became SC 37 (now SC 3).
In 1951, SC 631 east was re-extended to end at SC 128 (now US 278) Grays.
In 1972, SC 631 was renumbered as part of SC 3.
