SC 550  not currently assigned
Previous SC 550's: SC 550: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 5 (current SC 274) Rock Hill north 5 miles to India Hook.
In 1948, SC 550 was downgraded to S-46-30.

 
 
SC 551  not currently assigned
Previous SC 551's: SC 551: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from US 301-501 Hamer east to the North Carolina Line, continuing as SR 2489 Stuarts Mill Rd heading towards NC 130.
The 4 miles of SC 551 were downgraded in 1948 to S-17-35 and S-17-40.

 
 
SC 552  not currently assigned
Previous SC 552's: SC 552: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as a new primary route. Was in 2 pieces: 1. SC 6 Lexington north to Lands End on the southern shore of Lake Murray (5 miles) and 2. North shore of Lake Murray below Shady Acres up through Chapin and ending at the Newberry-Lexington Line (8 miles).
In 1948, SC 552 was downgraded to S-32-52 and Roberts Rd (Piece 1) and S-32-51 and S-32-49 (Piece 2).
These two pieces were not directly across the lake from each other, so I'm not sure of the point...

 
 
SC 553  not currently assigned
Previous SC 553's: SC 553: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran as a cutoff from SC 5 (current US 321) Woodford west to US 178, a total of 2 miles.
In 1948, SC 553 was downgraded to S-38-47.
SC 554  not currently assigned
Previous SC 554's: SC 554: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new routing. Ran from US 21 in NE Rock Hill south to SC 5 (current US 21-SC 5), then SW to end at US 21-SC 901 (current SC 72-121-901 jct). SC 554 was 6 miles long.
In 1948, SC 554 was downgraded to secondary status, but it appears that most of it is now again primary routing, as the SC 121 Bypass, although on the northern end it appears to be today's Mt. Gallant Rd.

 
 
SC 555

 Creation: Resurrected as a state route in 1951 or 1952, running as it does today.
Adjustments: SC 555 originally appeared in 1941 or 1942, also running as it does today.
In 1948, SC 555 was downgraded to secondary status.
Improvements: SC 555's lower half (below old SC 665) was paved in 1942. The rest was fully paved upon resurrection.
SC 555 was 4-laned from SC 12 to SC 16 by 1964.
Between 1968-70, this 4-lane was extended out to I-20.
Between 1980-82, SC 555 was also 4-laned in the I-77 area.
Comment: SC 555 is not as useful as it once was, with I-77 running so close to it.
SC 556  not currently assigned
Previous SC 556's: SC 556: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new routing. Ran as a 3 mile stub east off SC 55 (current SC 5-55 split) east of Kings Creek to today's S-46-11.
In 1947 or 1948, SC 556 was renumbered as part of SC 324. Today, this is part of SC 5.
SC 557
From: SC 55 east of Clover (York County)
To: SC 49, SC 274 west of Lake Wylie (York County)
Total Length: 6.7 miles

 Creation: Appeared in 1942 as a renumbering of the original SC 59. Ran as it does today.
Adjustments: None
Improvements: Fully paved at creation; no multilane segments.
Comment: SC 557 provides part of a backway route from I-85 Blacksburg to Charlotte when coupled with SC 5, 55, and 49.

 
 
SC 560
From: SC 39 Cross Hill (Laurens County)
To: US 76 Kinards (Newberry County)

 Creation: Appeared in 1949 as a resurrected route, running as it does today.
Adjustments: SC 560 originally appeared in 1940 as new primary routing. It orignally ran from US 76 to SC 56 like today, but then multiplexed with SC 56 north 1 mile, then headed NW to end at SC 72, 2 miles north of Mountville.
In 1948, all of SC 560 was downgraded. The SC 72 to SC 56 piece became S-30-49, S-30-38, and S-30-46. The rest was downgraded but eventually came back as SC 560.
Improvements: Fully paved as resurrection; no multilane sections
Comment: Technically, SC 560 WB does not exist in Newberry County, as the county line is in the center of the road from SC 56 all the way to US 76.
SC 560 can be used as a useful way to get from I-26 to Greenwood.

 
 
SC 561  not currently assigned
Previous SC 561's: SC 561: Appeared in 1940 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 56 near Mudlick east 3 miles in western Newberry County.
In 1948, SC 561 was downgraded to S-36-22.

 
 
SC 562  not currently assigned
Previous SC 562's: SC 562: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 56 south of Clinton northeast across US 76 and ending at SC 72. A second discontinuous piece ran from SC 92 (current SC 49) Cross Keys south to the Laurens-Union Line/
In 1948, the 10 miles of SC 562 were downgraded to S-30-34 (southern piece) and S-44-22 (northern piece).
SC 563  not currently assigned
Previous SC 563's: SC 563: Appeared in 1941 or 1942 as new primary routing. Ran from US 176 (current SC 215) west of Buffalo west to the Spartanburg-Union Line (just short of SC 56)
In 1948, the 4 miles of SC 563 were downgraded to S-44-25.
