SC 541
From: SC 341 Olanta (Florence County)
To: US 52 Coward (Florence County)
Total Length: 10.8 miles
ROUTE LOG
SC 341: 0 - 0
SC 403: 3.1 - 3.1
US 52: 7.7 - 10.8
Creation: Appeared in 1948 as upgraded routing. Ran as it does today. This is the 2nd SC 541.
Adjustments: None
Improvements: SC 541 wasn't paved until 1954. No multilane sections.
Comment: Not much excitement to SC 541, though it does require a couple turns to complete. For years in the 70's-80's SC 541 was not posted from either direction on US 52, just a lone reassurance marker if you stumbled upon it.
Previous SC 541's: SC 541 #1: Appeared in 1940 as new primary routing. Ran from SC 94 (current S-45-28) to SC 54 (current US 378) near Barrineau Crossroads.
In 1941 or 1942, SC 541 was extended north to SC 341 Olanta, bringing SC 541's length to 9 miles.
In 1948, SC 541 was downgraded to S-45-32, S-14-18, and S-21-37.
I have no evidence that current SC 541 was an extension of the original SC 541.

SC 544
From: US 17 Bus Surfside Beach (Horry County)
To: US 501 Bus Red Hill (Horry County)
Total Length: 14.2 miles

SC 707: 2.7 - 4.6

US 501 Bus: 0.2 - 14.2
Creation: Appeared in 1949 as a resurrected route, running from US 17 Murrells Inlet to US 501 near Conway. From Socastee to Conway was a renumbering of US 501. SC 544 was at its longest here at 21 miles.
Adjustments: Between 1980-82, SC 544 was rerouted at Socastee to go to Surfside Beach along what had been a secondary road. Socastee to Murrells Inlet became part of today's SC 707.
Improvements: Fully paved since resurrection. Mulitlaned between US 17 and US 17 Bus between 1997-2000.
Comment: SC 544 will become a useful bypass of Myrtle Beach once SC 31 is extended to it.
