Creation: SC 118 appeared in 1974 as new primary routing, running as a full half-loop around the north side of Aiken. This is the 2nd SC 118.
Adjustments: In 1987, SC 118 was rerouted to meet US 1-78 further west (new construction), then replaced SC 478 around to SC 302 south of Aiken. The old approach to US 1-78 became S-2-2131 University Pkwy.
In 2005, SC 118 was rerouted on the northeast side of Aiken onto new construction to meet US 78 at the SC 302 area as it does today. The old approach to US 78 became S-2-2323 Beaufort Ave.

Improvements: Paved since creation;
SC 118 is multilaned from US 78 to SC 4; Wire Rd to SC 19
Comment: The NE and NW sections of SC 18 have been posted as US 1 TRUCK, US 78 TRUCK, and SC 19 TRUCK since at least 1981.
SC 118 passes through the campus of USC-Aiken.
