SC 68 #1: Appeared in 1934 or 1935 as new primary routing, running from SC 381 near Clio east to North Carolina.
In 1937, SC 68 was removed from S-35-94 (now discontinuous over the Little Pee Dee River) and Old Willis School Rd and instead met SC 381 right outside Clio.
In 1938, SC 68 became SC 83.

SC 68 #2: Appeared in 1938 as a renumbering of SC 79, running from SC 6 (now US 321) Denmark east then south to Voorhees College.
Around 1940, SC 68 was rerouted to what became SC 5 opposite of where SC 70 met SC 5. The original route is S-5-283 and S-5-551 Hagood St; S-5-180 Frederick St; S-5-53 Church St
This SC 68 was downgraded to S-5-12 in 1947.
