Formerly:
NC 26-A: NC 26-A was born about 1947 after NC 26 was placed on a direct path from US 221 Woodlawn north to Spruce Pine, bypassing Little Switzerland. The original winding ascent became NC 26-A.
NC 26-A was renumbered as NC 226-A around 1961 as NC 26 was renumbered to NC 226.
NC 26-A was once the original NC 19.
