Creation: SC 254 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running generally as it does today. This is the only SC 254.
Adjustments: In 1946 or 1947, the northern half of SC 254 was placed onto newly constructed alignment to the east of the original route. This also moved the SC 254 endpoint with US 25 a little further north. The old route through Cokesbury is S-24-57 Asbury Rd and also Daniel Rd.

Improvements: SC 254 was paved about a mile off SC 72 upon designation.
SC 254 was fully paved in 1946 or 1947.
Comment: SC 254 provides a back way to Cokesbury from Greenwood.
Although it looks like SC 254 could have once been part of US 25 or its predecessors, it never was part of the Greenwood-Greenville corridor.
