Creation: SC 88 appeared in 1939 as new primary routing running from US 76/SC 28 (now SC 28 Bus) Pendleton east to US 178. A separate piece was created running a mile west off SC 8. This is the only SC 88.
Adjustments: In 1940, the two pieces of SC 88 were connected.
Between 1941-47, SC 88 was extended east as new primary routing to end at SC 81.
About 2008, SC 88 east was truncated to SC 8, leaving behind SC 8 and S-4-166 Old Greenville Hwy.

Improvements: SC 88 was fully paved between 1943-48; no multilane segments exist on SC 88.
Comment: I used SC 88 many times getting to and from Clemson Univ., whether heading for I-85 NB or going home to Charleston.
