In 1940, SC 70 was extended through Denmark with SC 5 (now US 321), then northeast as new primary routing to end at SC 332 west of Cope. Also, SC 70 was extended west with SC 64 a mile, then southwest as new primary routing to end at today's S-6-573 well south of Snelling.
In 1942, SC 70 was extended southwest as more new primary routing to SC 28 (now SC 125), then with SC 28 to Martin, then southeast as more new primary routing to end at SC 37-631 (now SC 3).

In 1951, the discontinuous piece of SC 70 south of Martin was downgraded to S-3-47.
Between 1953-57, SC 70 was removed from S-6-11 Main St and placed on Allen St
In 1958, SC 70 was re-extended over S-5-17, S-38-42 (much of which had actually been fully abandoned), and S-38-62 to end at US 301-601 near Cordova.

In 1941, SC 70 was paved on its SC 28 multiplex.
SC 70 wasn't paved east of Denmark until it was re-extended east in 1958. The discontinuous piece below Martin was never paved before it was downgraded.
No multilane sections exist on SC 70.
Comment: SC 70 serves as a direct route from the Orangeburg area to Barnwell.
