Creation: Appeared in 1942 as new primary routing running from US 276 (now SC 417) Mauldin north through Greer to end at US 176 Landrum. This is the 2nd SC 14.
Adjustments: In 1958, SC 14 was extended south through Fountain Inn replacing US 276 down to the new US 276 freeway (now I-385).
In 1960, SC 14 was extended along the new US 276 freeway, then replaced more US 276 southeast through Gray Court and ending in Laurens.
Between 1964-68, SC 14 was removed from Matlock Cir; Old Wagon Rd and S-23-96 E. Gap Creek Rd north of Greer.
In 1965, SC 14 was extended north over S-42-128 to the newly completed I-26.
In 1969 or 1970, SC 14 was removed from S-42-2985 Ford Ln and Owl Nest Ln south of Landrum.
Between 1969-73, SC 14 was rebuilt in the Gowensville area, leaving behind N. Old Hwy 14; Linder Rd; a slight SC 414 extension; W Old Hwy 14; Gowensville Church Rd

Improvements: SC 14's initial routing was paved upon inception except below SC 296.
US 276 to SC 296 was paved in 1949.
SC 14 was multilaned on its US 276 multiplex in 1960.
By 2005, SC 14 was multilaned from Pelham to Greer
In 2006, SC 14 is erroneously shown on official maps to be multilaned from SC 417 to SC 146.
In 2007 or 2008, SC 14 was multilaned from SC 417 to SC 418.
By 2008, SC 14 was 6-laned from I-85 to SC 14 TRUCK south of Greer.
Comment: SC 14 is the only state route to multiplex with an interstate - I-385.
SC 14 skirts the west side of Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.
There is a signed SC 14 TRUCK for Greer, using S-23-136 S. Buncombe Rd and US 29.

SC 14 #1: An original state route. Ran from SC 2 (current SC 93) Liberty northeast through Pickens before entering North Carolina near Mt. Sassafrass as NC 283.
In 1923, SC 14 was extended south as new primary routing to SC 15 (current US 76-178 split) Anderson.
If SC 14 used S-39-122 McDaniel Ave south of Pickens it stopped doing so by 1931.
In 1937, SC 14 was eliminated when US 178 was extended over it.
