History:

US 64 Bypass was assigned in June 1999 (NCDOT) to a new route and bridge across Croatan Sound, bypassing Manteo from US 64 Manns Harbor and the US 64/NC 345 intersection south of Manteo. The route actually opened to traffic in 2002.

Comments:

There do not appear to be any route markers along US 64 Bypass. But there is a lovely rest area/visitor center near its eastern end.
The speed limit on the bridge was 60 for a time, roughly 2013-25, before dropping back to 55.
