The Road: Begins at NC 22-42 near Bennett and ends at US 64 Bus/NC 87 Pittsboro, all within Chatham County.
Towns and Attractions: Chatham Co:Bear Creek, Pittsboro
History: NC 902 was born in 1929 or 1930 as new primary routing. Initially NC 902 ran from US US 64/NC 90 Asheboro and proceeded east to Coleridge, then south to end at NC 74 (now NC 24-27 west of Carthage.
In 1932, NC 902 east was truncated to NC 64 (current NC 22) Coleridge. Coleridge south to Carthage became part of the new NC 64. Coleridge to today's NC 24-27 is now NC 22 except in High Falls 902 jutted east a mile or so on River Rd before crossing the Deep River on Sessom Rd (902 did not cross Buffalo Creek at all unlike 22 today). Also the south end used Crabtree Rd to meet then-NC 74.

In 1953, NC 902 was extended west into downtown Asheboro replacing US 64 along Salisbury St to end at US 220-311/NC 49A Fayetteville St.
