N.C. 401  dead
Formerly:

NC 401: Appeared in 1930 as a branch off the original NC 40. NC 401 was just a short spur from NC 40 (US 117 today) to the NC Experimental Farm south of Wallace.
In 1933, the short-lived original US 401 was born, thus NC 401 would've had to expire in 1935. However, US 401 also went away in 1935. The reprieve for NC 401 was short because in 1940 it became part of an extended NC 11, which stayed as a stub for a few years after that before being relegated SR 1357 Jonestown Rd.
