The Road: Begins at NC 27 Hulls Crossroads (Lincoln County) and ends at the South Carolina State Line near Lake Wylie (Gaston County). The road continues as SC 274 to end at US 21 Business in Rock Hill, SC.

History: NC 274 was born in 1930 as new primary routing, running from NC 27 only to US 74/NC 20 (now NC 161) Bessemer City.
About 1938, NC 274 was extended southeast along then-US 29-74 ALT to Gastonia, then southeast as new primary routing to the South Carolina line.
