The Road: Begins at NC 105 (Avery County) and ends at Beech Mountain (Watauga County)

History: NC 184 appeared about 1956 as new primary routing, running from NC 105 to NC 194 Banner Elk.
In 1983 or 1984, NC 184 was extended north to Beech Mountain as an upgrade to Ashe SR 1331 and possibly new construction on the Watauga side.

The first NC 184 was born in 1937 running from NC 18 Shelby west to Boiling Springs.
In 1940, NC 184 became part of NC 150.
