The Road: Begins at US 421 Silver Lake and ends at US 117/NC 133 Castle Hayne, all within New Hanover County
Towns and Attractions: New Hanover Co: Wilmington, Winter Park, UNC-Wilmington, Castle Hayne
History: NC 132 was born in 1958 as new primary routing, running the way it does now.
In Jan 1983 (NCDOT), NC 132 was officially rerouted to follow today's I-40 from exit 420 to US 117 near Wallace.
In Aug 1984 (NCDOT), NC 132 was removed from the freeway which was assigned as I-40 instead. NC 132 then was restored to run to US 117/NC 133 at Castle Hayne.

1984 NCDOT NC 132 really was assigned to the I-40 freeway

US 117 was added to all but the southernmost 4 miles of NC 132 in March 2003 (NCDOT), so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a truncation at some point.

Comment:
No map I have seen shows NC 132 on what is now I-40.
NC 132 serves UNC-Wilmington as well as provides a corridor from I-40 to the Carolina Beach area while avoiding downtown Wilmington.
