The Road: Begins at Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center just south of US 13-64 near Williamston (Martin County) and ends at NC 48 Roanoke Rapids (Halifax County)
Towns and Attractions: Martin Co: Williamston, Hamilton, Oak City
Halifax Co: Hobgood, Scotland Neck, Halifax, Roanoke Rapids
History: NC 125 appeared in late 1922. It ran as new primary routing from NC 30-90 (now US 17 Bus) Williamston northwest through Hamilton and Oak City to Hobgood, then replaced NC 12 from Hobgood to Scotland Neck. Then NC 125 replaced NC 128 northeast to end at NC 305 Rich Square.
In 1925, NC 125 swapped alignments with NC 12. NC 12 ran to Rich Square while NC 125 was routed northwest from Scotland Neck to end at NC 40 (now US 301) near Halifax.

It appears NC 125 was removed from the "Old NC 125" southeast of US 301 about 1929.
About 1954, NC 125 was extended south with US 17-A to the new Williamston Bypass
In April 1964 (NCDOT), NC 125 was extended north with US 301 to Halifax, then replaced SRs 1423, 1619 and 1400 to end at US 158 Roanoke Rapids.
In Oct 1969 (NCDOT), NC 125 was given one-way splits in Williamston. SB used Main St to Elm St to Washington St. NB used the original NC 125 of Washington and Houghton Sts
In Feb 1981 (NCDOT), NC 125 was extended north over more SR 1400 to end at NC 48.

About 1996, NC 125 was extended west along the original Williamston Bypass and over to its current endpoint, even though the US 13-64 freeway was a few years off. I saw this in person in mid-1996. Official maps didn't show this until 2001 or 2002.
In the late 1990s, NC 125 received its interchange with I-95.

In fall 2019, NC 125 was placed on newly constructed bypass around the west of Williamston, tying directly into where NC 125 had left US 64 ALT. The old route south into Williamston became secondary while south of downtown the route remains US 17 Business then US 64 ALT.

Comment: NC 125 is a pretty good route (especially when combined with NC 903) to get from I-95 to the Williamston area.
