Formerly:

NC 85: Born in 1937 as a renumbering of NC 802, running from US 74 near Pee Dee southwest through Morven and to South Carolina, where SC 85 picked up the traveler.
About 1947, NC 85 was rebuilt in the Cairo area to a straighter alignment, leaving behind today's "Old NC 85"
NC 85 was renumbered as NC 145 in 1961 because of the I-85 designation.
